Short Term Rentals Update

Short term rentals (STRs) of dwellings are not permitted in residential zones under the Township of Oro-Medonte’s Zoning By-law.

An appeal process started by STR operators who are trying to overturn the Township's By-laws and legalize STRs is now underway before the Ontario Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT).

The Oro-Medonte Good Neighbours Alliance (Alliance) supports the Township’s efforts to have the Township’s By-laws successfully upheld through the LPAT process as soon as possible.  In February 2021 the Alliance was added as a Party to the LPAT proceedings.

Twelve Residents’ Associations, including EMPCA, have been working with the Alliance and strongly support the Township's By-laws being upheld by LPAT.  Having the Township’s By-laws upheld is a critical step toward stopping the disruptions caused by STRs in residential neighbourhoods.

We encourage everyone who is concerned about disruptive STRs to make a donation to the Alliance in support of this very important initiative to protect our community. More information on STRs and details on how to donate can be found on the Alliance website:

Oro Township Septic Maintenance

The Township has recently mailed out notification that the next round of septic maintenance reporting is kicking off in 2021, and is on a cycle that ends in 2025.  The web site referred in the letter shows that Eight Mile Point residences will be required to submit our maintenance documentation in 2024.
